off beat

Everyone has a vision of how they want their wedding to turn out, I believe I have most of mine captured in photographs.  My favorite is our first dance as husband and wife.  We danced to Aaron Fresh, “Spending all my time lovin’ you.”  This song is not an ordinary wedding song, but that is why I am in love with this photograph. This photograph was taken by our photographer Jeremy Keith.  He is very talented and the way he captured this moment is priceless.  They say every picture tells a story, and I believe that this is the seven years we’ve spent together.  Dancing into a life with new beginnings, and take those life lessons to benefit the hard times.  My dress, his smile, and our love is off beat but yet it all fits together perfectly.

Most little girls dream that when they are older they will be married to their prince charming. They picture themselves in a beautiful white dress standing at the alter.  Gorgeous flowers surrounding, birds chirping and blissful music playing.  Never mind all that, my dress is the most amazing garment ever made called Mari by Melissa Sweet.  It was perfect because I knew that a long gown didn’t fit.  It just did not feel right, and it wasn’t me.  I wanted something different.  When I did find THE dress, it was the first dress I tried on at Priscilla of Boston.  I tried on many after but eventually went back where I started. It was a short silk shantung dress with braided straps, back bustle detail, and flounce hem. The designed in the back reminded me of a peacock, which was part of the theme for my wedding.  Aside from the design of the dress, having it on made me feel beautiful and on top of the world.

A smile is putting on a happy expression.  It is an expression of friendliness or tenderness. I remember when we first met in high school, he would always drive by, and wink at me with a smile.  His smile made my stomach flip upside down.  Many people have told me that feeling eventually goes away. Til this day, I still get butterflies when he smiles at me.  Seeing his smile when I’m down let’s me know that everything will be okay.  Seeing his smile on that dance floor at our wedding, made nothing else mattered.  That night his smile made me feel like I was the only girl in the world.  My stomach was churning with happiness as I took each step.  I smiled back thinking nothing could ruin this special moment.

Off beat meaning something different from usual.  For example the usual is a white long wedding dress versus a short ivory dress.  My definition of off beat is our love for each other.  There is not enough words to paint a picture of our friendship.  With each careful step on the dance floor, I think of all the years he’s been my friend...my best friend. My husband and I are really close, which makes everything fit together perfectly.  Many people say that we have a bond like no other couple, and how they see that while watching us throughout our relationship.  I believe that being friends is what makes things work between us. They noticed that they can see how good we connect with each other at our first dance.  They mentioned how we both are so easy going and how we think you should live life simply. We both believe that no matter what, when life goes off beat, take a hold of it and just go off beat too.
